Jewellery Care

At Get The Look Accessories, we mainly use precious metals such as Sterling Silver with Gold, Silver and Rhodium plating. We also have Stainless Steel pieces which are also hand finished with a protective plating. All materials for each item can be found in the description tab.

Whether you want to have some plated pieces to wear instead of your real pieces on holiday or on nights out or you simply do not want to break the bank but want to get the expensive look we have the perfect pieces for you.

We use the highest quality diamond simulants to give you the best sparkle and realistic look. Most are brilliant cut and hand finished meaning they are made to last.

Plating consists of placing a thin layer of gold or any other precious metal. To prolong the lifespan of your jewellery and decrease the chances of your plating wearing out, we advise the following:

  1. Do not spray on perfume or other sprays while wearing your gold plated jewellery. Wear your jewellery after you have sprayed on your favourite perfume so that chemicals on the spray or perfume does not interact with your jewellery’s metal.

  2. Wait until your lotion or cream is dry or has been absorbed by your skin before you wear your gold plated ring, bracelet or necklace.

  3. Substances like oil, nail polish, nail polish remover, chlorine, perfume and the like may react with metal/plated jewellery and will cause it to tarnish easily. This also goes with sweat, so make sure you don’t forget to remove your gold plated jewellery when you exercise or anything that would require heavy physical work, and also when swimming.

  4. Regularly clean your plated jewellery with a cotton ball or a very soft cloth to remove any dust and dirt it has acquired. Gently rubbing the surface of your gold plated jewellery using a soft jewellery cloth also helps restore shine.

  5. If your jewellery needs more cleaning you may clean it with warm, soapy water and let it soak for a few minutes. Stay away from jewellery cleaners and antibacterial soaps which may have certain components that will just make your gold plated jewellery tarnish more quickly.

  6. To avoid scratches, wrap your jewellery in a soft cloth after cleaning or keep it in your Get The Look jewellery pouch (included in every order).

Diamond Simulant Care:

Our Cubic Zirconia and Diamond Simulant stones are so sparkly and exquisite you might even forget they are not real diamonds (we know others won't be able to tell!)

Over time like any other stones, diamond simulants can become cloudy due to chemical residue being left on the stone. To prevent cloudiness, keep your diamond simulant jewellery clean and avoid exposure to chemicals or extreme temperatures. Remove it when applying lotions, perfumes, or hairsprays to prevent residue buildup. Store your jewellery in a dry place for lasting brilliance.

If your stone has become cloudy then you can follow these simple steps:

  1. Prepare a solution: Mix mild dish soap or a gentle jewellery cleaner with warm water in a small bowl. Avoid using harsh chemicals, bleach, or abrasive cleaners.
  2. Soak the jewellery: Place your cloudy cubic zirconia jewellery in the solution and let it soak for 15-20 minutes. This will help loosen any dirt or residue.
  3. Gently clean: Use a soft-bristle toothbrush or a clean, soft cloth to gently scrub the jewellery. Pay attention to the areas around the cubic zirconia stone, ensuring you remove any debris or buildup.
  4. Rinse and dry: Rinse the jewellery under warm water to remove any soap residue. Pat it dry with a clean, lint-free cloth, or let it air dry naturally.
  5. We would always recommend to invest in an ultrasonic jewellery cleaner to make looking after your jewellery easier and to use regularly to refresh your jewellery. These can be purchased for as low as £20-£30 from amazon and other retailers.
